Who Are We?
Thank you for our interest in our church website! I hope that you will come to sense that this is a welcoming place! We want you to know that we care about you, and will strive even more in the future to make that obvious. We would love to have you come and be a part of our fellowship.
It can be uncomfortable to be a visitor, but you are not alone. You will find real people here. You will meet others who have begun life restless and have come to find rest in God. You will find fellowship and community. We would rejoice to have you join us.
We care about many things. Above all, we care about God’s will. Jesus’ teachings are life-changing and our commitment is to be faithful to both the letter and spirit of his instruction. If you long to know what God has taught about life and salvation, we can help.
It is hard to follow God without the encouragement of a church family. We are devoted to one another and want all the members of church to be blessed, to grow in God’s grace, and to go to heaven. We would love to open our family to you and to those you love.
It is difficult to present a clear picture of a church’s heart, but we want you to know that we have a heart for you. “We Care” is not just a church slogan, it is our sincere offer of frienhsip.

We want to be ambassadors for Christ (2 Cor 5:20-21), thoroughly prepared (2 Tim 2:15), properly equipped (Eph 6:17), and motivated by the love of God (2 Cor 5:13-15): teaching the truth in love (Eph 4:15), serving others (Gal 5:13), facing the right adversary (1 Pet 5:8), leading the lost to Christ (Mk 16:15-16), and serving God’s will in Fort Walton Beach and throughout the world (Rom 12:1-2).
We seek to build upon the perfect and eternal foundation of Jesus Christ, a structure that will by no means pass away or crumble over time (1 Cor 3:11). With eternity in mind we place priority on welcoming people into God’s family. The Church offers truth, light, and rest to the weak and lonely in a world that seeks to confuse and devour innocence everywhere. For those who suffer under the yoke of sin, experience the pain of addictions, and bear the scars of a broken life, Christ invites you to come to Him for restoration. We seek to be messengers of this good news to as many as will listen.
As God continues to reach out to us, we have determined to run to Him while empowering others to do likewise. Service to the community and each other reminds us just how much we depend on God’s sustaining power. Worshiping in a way that truly glorifies and praises the Father helps to maintain a God-centered focus in our assemblies. We are striving to share the gift of salvation, and by doing so, impact Fort Walton Beach. We have set in our hearts to become a unified church across all racial and generational lines. We strive to be a body of believers rich in faith regardless of any social standings or worldly barriers (Jas 2:1). It is truly our goal to become a "royal Priesthood" and declare the glory of God to those still living in this world’s darkness (1 Pe 2:9).
In a culture that is experiencing ever higher divorce rates, crime rates, and addictions, we are seeking to broadcast God’s way. As we face these great challenges we are learning to build strong families who grow together in love. As we connect with God, He supplies the power to overcome and endure all the struggles we may face. We seek to deepen faith, commitment, and over-all Bible knowledge through in-depth classes and culturally relevant sermons. We long to personally know the God revealed in the Scriptures. We currently worship and teach in English and Spanish because God’s message is for all who will listen. We long to share and provide for those in need just as the early church in Jerusalem had all things in common (Acts 2:44). Here at FWB Church of Christ we simply seek to let God’s light shine and give glory to Him.
When we gather for worship, we come as redeemed sinners, recognizing (1) that we are unworthy to enter the presence of God, (2) but Jesus calls us worthy and invites us into the presence of God. The Bible serves as the foundation of our worship preparation: we seek to let the Word of God be clear and present in everything we do. We sing songs which give glory to Jesus, our Savior and Lord. Our prayers ask for God’s continued forgiveness, blessings for the day, and hope for tomorrow. We take part in the communion meal which reminds us of Christ and our common bond in Him. We have the opportunity to give money as a happy expression of our thankfulness to Christ. No visitors are asked to give anything: members give as much or as little as they desire. The sermon will usually explain some part of the Bible, while lifting up Jesus, and helping us understand how to be more like Christ in our work and home life.
Our Core Beliefs
Ultimately our aim is to teach the truth on every subject, and to strive for perfection in all things (Matt 5:48). Yet we recognize our imperfection, our lack of complete understanding, and our call to be one in Christ, even in disagreement (Rom 15; 1 Cor 8). In keeping with the Bible’s emphasis on unity (Eph 4:1) in matters of "first importance" (1 Cor 15:1-4) which are "more important" (Matthew 23:23), we seek to glorify God through united agreement on the following truths as found in Christ (John 14:6; John 8:32):
We believe in God, the uncaused, eternal, creator of heaven and earth, who lives in loving relationship as Father, Son, and Spirit (2 Cor 12:14). He loves the world and by His grace desires to save the world (John 3:16). Therefore, all of creation is responsible to Him.
2. The Bible
We view the Bible as God’s message (2 Tim 3:14-17; 1 Thess 2:13), the final authority for faith and life (2 Peter 1:20-21; Matt 5:17-19). The Bible is a trusted story from God through humans meant to be understood and to transform us into Godly people and to bring about a Godly world.
3. Jesus Christ
Our Savior and Lord. In Christ, God put on humanity, lived among us (John 1:14), died and was raised again on the third day (1 Cor. 15:1-4) in order to bring salvation to those who believe and obey (John 3:36).
We believe that God loves the world and by His grace wants to save the world through His Son (John 3:16). We believe that humans are lost in sin until they are found in Christ. Salvation is received by grace through faith in action (Eph 2:8; James 2:26). God gracefully pronounces us forgiven, adds us to His body, and fills us with His Spirit, when our personal decision to follow Christ leads us to have a repentant heart, and we submit to baptism into Jesus Christ (Acts 2:38; Rom 6:1-5; Gal 3:26-27; 1 Pet 3:21). Those who belong to Christ are called to lives of spiritual service and discipleship, as heirs of eternal life and as good stewards of the gift of salvation (Eph 2:10).
5. The Church
Jesus Christ has one body of believers (Matt 16:18) who are called to share God’s love through the local body of believers. The Fort Walton Beach Church seeks simply to be a faithful body of Christians who honor Jesus Christ, our foundation, through lived-out discipleship. The church is the visible expression of the kingdom of God on earth. The same process which adds you to Christ also adds you to His church.
Every member is a minister, called to use his or her gifts to serve the church and the world (Eph 4:12). We stand for Holy lives, loving hearts, helping hands, honest minds, and forgiving souls.
7. The Second Coming
We believe that Jesus is returning one day to judge the world and rescue his family (2 Thess 1:7-10).
